John Lilley has been playing saxophone in the Richmond area since his arrival in 2004. Growing up in Newport News, Virginia to a family of music lovers, he began playing the saxophone at the age of 13. After graduating from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2008, he has maintained an active career as a performer and educator. Although trained in the jazz tradition, he has pursued exploring esoteric musical mediums that have allowed him to perform and record with a wide range of artists such as Glows In The Dark, Fight the Big Bull, Matthew E. White, The Toby Whitaker Big Band, Steven Bernstein. The Microwaves, and Bio Ritmo.
